Yesterday, Monday, National Security Adviser Qassem Al-Araji announced the results of the first report of the investigation into the attempted assassination of Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi, stressing that the attack targeted his life.
Al-Araji said in the press conference on the results of the investigation, which was followed by (Al-Mada), that "the investigative committee hosted important personalities with specialists for the requirements of the investigation."
He added, "The investigation committee was formed under our leadership and the membership of the Prime Minister's Office, ministers and security officials." Al-Araji indicated, “The committee proved to it that the attack on the prime minister’s house was carried out with two drones, and two projectiles were thrown, one of them on the roof of Al-Kazemi’s house and the other in his courtyard.”
He explained, "One of the projectiles exploded, the second did not, and we obtained the coordinates of the plane that targeted the house."
Al-Araji pointed out, "Two teams of anti-explosives and forensic evidence were sent to the crime scene, and the criminal fencers were taken."
He said, "The attack with two projectiles confirms the direct targeting of the life of the Prime Minister," noting that "a second projectile was found that did not explode on the roof of the Prime Minister's house on the second day."
And he added, "The committee was surprised that two detachments affiliated to combat explosives and forensic evidence detonated the projectile without removing fingerprints," stressing that "the investigation committee decided to imprison two detachments responsible for detonating the projectile and transfer them to the Ministry of the Interior, including the director of explosive control, Major General Sabah al-Shibli."
And Al-Araji added, “The investigation will find out the reasons behind not taking the fingerprints and detonating the projectile,” adding that “the investigation committee requests those who have evidence about the incident, and we are far from any political debate.”
He pointed out that "the investigation committee is carrying out its duty without any pressure and carrying out its national duty, and has not yet accused a person or entity, and the investigation needs more time."
And Al-Araji said, "The Prime Minister recommended the investigation committee to be impartial and professional, and to keep the country's interest in mind."
And he indicated that "the investigation committee has not sought the assistance of any foreign party so far, and it is possible to use the efforts of brotherly and friendly countries to uncover the truth and take advantage of all possibilities."
Al-Araji spoke about “important threads that we possess to reach the truth, and the investigations must be given sufficient time in order to be accurate,” explaining that “the committee asked Al-Kazemi to write down his statements and agreed to that, and also asked him for a record of those who visited him during the ten days before the incident.”
During the conference, al-Araji showed video recordings of the targeting process by a drone from different angles, while he stressed that the other radar devices could not photograph it because it flew at a low altitude, stressing "the location of the two planes' departure and their return place in northeastern Baghdad."
On the seventh of this month, Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi was subjected to a failed assassination attempt by two drones that threw two projectiles at his residence in the Green Zone, which led to material damage, while it was decided to form a higher committee to investigate the incident.
