The General Customs Authority has determined, today, Sunday, the revenues expected to be collected from the registration of non-original wheels, while it announced measures to prevent the smuggling of cars "without the model".
The Director-General of the Customs Authority, Shaker Al-Zubaidi, said, "Our estimates for the total revenues of registering wheels and bicycles entering Iraq during the past years in an unoriginal manner, whether registered or unregistered, are estimated at 500 billion dinars," noting that "the registration period for those wheels is two months, according to Article 48 of the law. The 2021 budget, starting from the 11th of last September until the 8th of January this year.
He added, "The central government considers with great importance the most prominent figures of Iraq's non-oil budget," noting that "the mechanism for implementing Article 48 includes 8 paragraphs of the joint registration procedures between the Customs Authority departments and the General Traffic Directorate, which starts from collecting fees to the validity of documents for registered cars. and not duly registered, in order to officially register it and get rid of the phenomenon of car smuggling during the past years.
He stressed, "taking all measures to stop this phenomenon that costs the country millions of dollars and poses a threat to national security," noting that "the customs law stipulated the confiscation of cars seized without the model, entering the country in accordance with Article 194 of the amended Customs Law 23 of 1984."
He continued, "Our customs centers, in coordination with the supporting agencies at land and air ports and ports, have all means and capabilities to thwart smuggling attempts," noting, "dozens of smuggling types have been seized, their files and seizures have been referred to the competent courts, and various rulings have been issued against them."
