The international expert in the field of water, Sameh Miqdadi, confirmed today, Tuesday, that the Shatt al-Arab is no longer, as it was previously known, a meeting point between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers due to the water crisis facing Iraq at the present time.
Al-Miqdadi explained that "the remaining water in the Shatt al-Arab is only from the Tigris River, due to the loss of 40% of the resources that feed the Shatt al-Arab due to Iran cutting off the rivers and tributaries that feed the Shatt al-Arab."
Noting that "Turkey's construction of the CAP project led to a 50% reduction in the resources of the Euphrates River, and therefore the Euphrates River can no longer feed the Shatt al-Arab, and the rest of the Euphrates goes to feeding the marshes."
