Minister of Water Resources, Mahdi Rashid Al-Hamdani, assured, on Friday, that the fear of drought has begun to end, and while expressing his sadness for the casualties caused by torrential rains in Erbil, he confirmed that the rising water levels will be distributed and discharged towards dams.
Al-Hamdani said in an interview with a number of journalists during his visit to the Samarra Dam: "The flood waters will be drained after the levels rise towards Lake Tharthar."
The minister added that "the state of drought has begun to end, and indicators of recovery from drought will continue in the coming days."
"We express our sorrow for the victims of the torrential rains in Erbil," he added.
He explained that "this amount of rain and rising levels have been waiting for a while, and that the quantities that fell will support the reservoirs and contribute to securing water until next summer," stressing that "the dams are ready to absorb the flood waves." Ended 29/R77
