{Local: Al Furat News} The Korean company, Daewoo, executing the Grand Port of Faw project, today, Tuesday, began hammering the piles for the purpose of testing through 22 piles with a length of more than 50 meters to examine the soil and the pile.
The director of the General Company for Iraqi Ports, Farhan Al-Fartousi, said in a press statement, "The operation is carried out in two stages, the first is hammering by vibration and the second is hammering through two pieces, the first 30 meters and 24 meters for the purpose of testing the substrate and soil."
He added, "The Ports Company has previously announced the process of testing the designs, and that hammering the pillars is one of the preparatory work for the completion of the five berths."
Al-Fartousi stressed that "work is continuing in all five contracts concluded at the end of 2020, whether they are berths or container yards, as well as the connecting road and submerged tunnel, and the proportions of works are more advanced than what was planned in the contracts."
He added, "The scheduled work was supposed to be after the funds were released in August, while the company started ten days after signing the contracts."
For her part, Director of the Grand Faw Port Authority, Hanadi Abdel Razzaq, said that "the project contracts are divided into two parts. The first contracts were signed in 2019, and they are almost complete projects, and the other part are the five contracts that were signed in 2020."
She added, "Among the five contracts concluded with the Korean company Daewoo is the road contract linking the Grand Port of Faw and Umm Qasr Port, and work in it is progressing at a good pace and high completion rates since the beginning of this year and before the launch of the financial allocations that arrived in the middle of last August."
And she added, "The work is proceeding according to the schedule set by Daewoo, and there is no delay or interruption in work. The work is now being prepared for the detailed designs of the port."
