Yesterday, Tuesday, the Border Ports Authority confirmed the evacuation of hundreds of stacked containers in the ports, while indicating that some of them need a direct solution from the Customs Authority and the General Company for Ports of Iraq.
Omar Al-Waeli, head of the Border Ports Authority, said in a press statement to the Iraqi News Agency, "The overcrowded containers have priority and follow-up by the Border Ports Authority because they are important files and have negative setbacks if they are controlled, due to the dangerousness of the loaded materials and the randomness of their presence and storage inside the ports."
He added, "The Council of Ministers issued decisions in this regard and formed joint committees to study the causes of overcrowding and address the situation," noting that "hundreds of containers were evacuated."
He added, "There are overcrowded containers that need a direct solution by the General Authority of Customs and the General Company for Iraqi Ports, according to their technical competencies." The Council of Ministers had issued a decision regarding the accumulation of containers in the northern port of Umm Qasr, and a number of measures were taken in this regard.
The General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the procedures stipulated, according to the decision, to provide insurances amounting to (500) thousand dinars for non-ratification of the certificate of origin and commercial lists (the invoice) and it is launched after submitting the mentioned certificates and lists." The statement added, "In the procedures, samples are also taken from the goods whose owners or authorized persons did not submit a certificate of conformity, and they are examined in the laboratories of the relevant ministries, and that the General Company for Exhibitions and Commercial Services expedite the issuance of special import licenses for goods whose owners did not provide import licenses."
