A source from the White House told Al-Arabiya / Al-Hadath, today, Friday, that Washington takes any threat to US forces in Iraq seriously.
He added that his country reserves the right to defend its forces against any threat, whether in Iraq or Syria.
These statements came after the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Navy, Ali Tangsiri, indirectly acknowledged Tehran's responsibility in targeting the Ain al-Assad base in the Iraqi Anbar province, which includes American advisers.
He added in a press interview yesterday that targeting al-Qaeda is "one of the models of our response", threatening at the same time the US forces in the region and closing the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iraqi Security Media Cell said Thursday morning that the air defenses had intercepted an unidentified drone that tried to approach the air base of the Iraqi Air Force Command in Anbar on Wednesday evening, pointing out that it was shot down outside the vicinity of "Ain al-Assad."

Al-Qaeda was subjected to several targets during the past two days through unknown marches, in addition to missile attacks.
An official in the international coalition revealed to AFP, on Wednesday, that five missiles landed near the base, without causing any casualties.
On Tuesday, Ain al-Assad was targeted by two drones equipped with explosives, while an American diplomatic center at Baghdad airport was also targeted by two drones.
However, the two attacks were thwarted, and did not result in casualties or damage, according to the official.
These attacks coincided with the second anniversary of the assassination of the commander of the Quds Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Qassem Soleimani, and the deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, in the vicinity of Baghdad Airport two years ago (the dawn of January 3, 2020), by American planes.

Iran and the Iraqi militia loyal to it have long vowed to avenge the killing of the leaders, content with firing rockets and marches, which often do not cause serious damage, and fall in the vicinity of military bases housing US soldiers affiliated with the coalition.

Since the summer of 2020, about 2,500 American soldiers and a thousand coalition forces are still present on Iraqi soil to provide advice and training to the Iraqi forces, while the majority of the American forces sent in 2014 as part of the coalition under Donald Trump left the country.
While about 900 American soldiers are deployed, in northeastern Syria, at the Al-Tanf base located near the Jordanian and Iraqi borders
