Revealing a new vision for the work of the Ministry of Oil: The government will promote the green economy
Shafaq News/ The Technical Undersecretary of the Ministry of Environment, Jassem Abdul Aziz Al-Falahi, revealed on Sunday a new vision for the work of the Ministry of Oil in the future, indicating that the Iraqi government will strengthen the green economy.
Al-Falahi said in a speech during the opening of the Iraq Clean Energy Forum, which was attended by Shafak News Agency correspondent, that "the agreement of the Earth Summit in Paris concluded that more than 300 years of industrial activity for the major countries was a major cause of the increase in global warming, and also reached decisions Serious efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and reduce the Earth's temperature by 1.5-2 degrees Celsius.
He added, "Iraq participated strongly in the World Conference and all the national team made a national scientific and technical contribution to be implemented and approved by the Council of Ministers in 2021. Iraq joined the Paris Agreement on Climate Change and was ratified by Parliament and the President of the Republic."
Al-Falahi continued, "The application of the principles of sustainable development and strengthening the response of the economy requires a gradual transition from an economy based on oil production as a main source of the economy and a major source of energy to a sustainable green economy, and this cannot be done without strengthening efforts to shift towards renewable energies."
He pointed out that "there is a new vision for the leadership of the Ministry of Oil, especially in this government, which has paid special attention to the gradual transition towards renewable energies," noting that "Iraq has been classified as one of the most fragile countries in the world affected by climate changes, and this is related to the great pressure on natural resources from The impact of climate change on biodiversity and the lack of water and food insecurity.
He pointed out that "balancing the impact of climate change can make the Iraqi environment more resilient by providing water and food security, promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals, health and social security, and promoting nature-based solutions."
Al-Falahi noted that "the Iraqi economy has depended heavily on oil production for decades, and the Ministry of Oil plays a major role in strengthening this economy," adding that "Iraq's reliance on oil production as a major source of the economy has very serious repercussions, as Iraq has gone through crises In light of the fluctuation of oil prices during the Corona pandemic and the financial crisis, but it was overcome thanks to the legalization and rationalization of procedures, and firm, albeit painful, financial treatments.
