The Kurdish leader, Massoud Barzani, and the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, discussed this evening, Tuesday, the latest political developments and steps to form the Iraqi government, after the Federal Supreme Court approved the legitimacy of the first session of the House of Representatives and what resulted from it.
Al-Sadr's private office stated in a statement that the latter "received a phone call from Massoud Barzani, during which the most important issues related to political developments in Iraq and the need to unify the national ranks at the current stage were discussed in the interest of Iraq and its people."
Today, Tuesday, the Federal Supreme Court decided to reject the appeal in the first session of Parliament submitted by Representative Bassem Khashan, and to consider the session legitimate and the selection of the parliament’s presidency legitimate, and decided to charge the costs of the lawsuit to Representative Bassem Khashan.
The court said that MP Khaled Al-Daraji presiding over the first parliament session does not contradict the provisions of the constitution.
The Federal Court annulled the state decision to stop the work of the elected Presidium of Parliament.
After the court's decision was issued, Al-Sadr said in a tweet seen by Shafak News Agency, "Once again, the Iraqi judiciary proves its integrity and independence and does not succumb to political pressures."
He added, "We are proceeding with the formation of a national majority government, and our door is still open to those we still have good faith in.. Everyone will remain our brothers, even if they take the opposition or boycott as long as they seek reform and the prestige of Iraq is working, both for subordination, all for violence, and all for breaking the law."
