Earth News/ Oil futures prices rose at the close of trading today, Thursday, after their temporary decline this morning, to remain at their highest levels in seven years.
This comes against the background of the US Federal Reserve (Central Bank) indicating its intention to start increasing US interest rates to curb inflation, which reduced investors' appetite for higher-risk assets such as raw materials.
Today, West Texas Intermediate crude rose to its highest level since October 2014, while the price of Brent crude, the global oil standard, rose to close to $91 a barrel.
And the Bloomberg news agency indicated that the rise in oil prices in recent days comes in light of the lack of actual supplies in the markets, and that the transactions that take place in the North Sea market and help determine global oil prices, reached their highest levels since 2019.
The price of West Texas Intermediate crude, the benchmark for US oil, rose 0.8% to $88.09 a barrel for delivery next March in the New York Mercantile Exchange.
The price of Brent crude, the benchmark, rose 0.7% to $90.59 a barrel for next March delivery.
