On Thursday, a member of the State of Law coalition, Jassem Al-Bayati, attributed the Iraqi government's cover-up of the cost of connecting electricity to Saudi Arabia to its very high costs, while noting that Al-Kazemi's government made a big mistake during the Saudi connection.
Al-Bayati told "The Information", "The Iraqi government deals with Saudi Arabia with the same sectarianism through the electrical interconnection project," wondering, "How is Saudi Arabia, which filled Iraq with suicide bombers and terrorist and criminal operations, is currently working on trying to revive the Iraqi citizen and provide him with electric power?"
He added, "Connecting Iraq's electricity to Saudi Arabia will inevitably be costly, starting with the distance that unites the two countries, which is approximately 300-400 kilometers, in addition to the electricity center. Will it be in the Saudi depth or on its borders close to the country?"
Al-Bayati explained that “the outgoing Al-Kazemi government did not disclose the cost of connecting Iraq’s electricity to Saudi Arabia because of its very high cost, which exceeds all financial expectations,” noting that it “will not bear these high costs.”
A member of the State of Law coalition confirmed that "the Iraqi government made a big mistake in this project," noting that "Iraq's electrical situation with Iran is much better than the rest of the Gulf countries."
The Acting Minister of Electricity had said earlier that linking Iraq's electricity with Saudi Arabia could not be disclosed about its financial cost.
