    The Ministry of Commerce revealed efforts to add new items to the food basket, while it is clear from a number reported by the ministry that each citizen costs the state about $6 per month to provide the food ration.

     A spokesman for the Ministry of Commerce, Muhammad Hanoun, said that “the food basket project is continuing, and the first meal of 2022 has been distributed and advanced completion rates have been achieved in the basket according to Cabinet Resolution 160, which allowed the Ministry of Commerce to contract with local companies for the purpose of supplying basket materials in addition to flour. Through the General Grain Company.

    Hannoun added, "The project has achieved success by facing the economic crisis taking place in the world," stressing that "it is possible to add new materials to the basket in the future."
    He pointed out that "the food basket is delivered to the citizens through the distributors' agents," noting that "there are problems facing the ministry due to the financial allocation of the food basket and the failure to approve the 2022 budget."
    He explained that "the ministry needs more than 250 million dollars per month to cover the needs of 40 million people," stressing "the need for exceptional decisions and an increase in the ministry's allocations in relation to the food basket."
    On this basis, the 250 million dollars means that the share of one person among the 40 million people is equivalent to spending more than 6 dollars on each person.
