The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, spoke on Friday of receiving threats of his intention to form a "majority" government in Iraq, stressing that he would not "sell the country to those behind the borders."
Al-Sadr said in a tweet on Twitter, "Once again the voices of slaying monsters that are aware of nothing but the threat are rising... once again threatening the allies and partners in the government of the national majority."
Al-Sadr added, directing his words to the parties that make the threats, "Enough with the threat and the threat. We will not return the country to the corrupt, and we will not sell the country to those behind the borders."
Al-Sadr stressed that he will not stand "idly" and allow "terror and corruption" to control Iraq.

Al-Sadr did not mention by name the parties that threatened him, but he always repeated his insistence on forming a "majority government", which in turn led to a strained relationship between him and the coordinating framework forces that include pro-Iranian parties.
The Sadrist movement is considered the strongest bloc in the Iraqi parliament after the legislative elections that took place in October 2021, as it occupies 73 seats out of 329.
Al-Sadr, the first winner of the elections, has been repeating for several months about his intention to form a "national majority" government represented by the parties that received the highest number of votes.
Al-Sadr's positions contrast with those advocated by the pro-Iranian factions, whose parliamentary quota decreased from 48 deputies in the previous parliament to 17 in the new parliament, demanding "traditional solutions and a settlement for all parties."
