The Ministry of Commerce has addressed the Ministry of Finance regarding securing financial allocations to equip citizens with the food basket.
According to documents issued by the Ministry of Commerce, “the latter addressed the Ministry of Finance based on Cabinet Resolution 459 of 2021, which includes (the Ministry of Commerce shall use the cash available in its public companies in an amount not exceeding 300 billion Iraqi dinars as an upper limit for purchasing wheat, securing food basket items and paying dues). The farmers, provided that the Ministry of Finance finances the ministry in the equivalent of the aforementioned amount within the allocations of the Ministry of Commerce to return it to the aforementioned companies.
The documents confirmed, "The amount of 300 billion is about to run out and that it does not meet the need in light of the current circumstances facing the countries of the world from the rise in food prices, in particular wheat, which is one of the most important materials that affect food security, as the current political situation has caused tensions as a result of the tensions." What is happening among the largest producers and exporters of wheat is a rise in the prices of wheat, which requires strengthening the balance of the Ministry of Trade of imported wheat, according to the plan set by this ministry, where the need for that substance is approximately 2 million tons, which requires taking quick measures by the Finance to proceed with the contractual procedures to secure the people's livelihood."
The ministry indicated, according to the documents, that it had "previously addressed the student's finances to enhance her balances."
The Ministry suggested, “In the event that the mentioned amount is not secured, the Ministry of Commerce finances from banks accredited to the Central Bank and that the Finance undertakes to pay this funding to the banks financed from the allocations of this Ministry for the current year 2022, provided that the Finance pays the financial benefits resulting from this funding, if any.” Or buying wheat material from some companies that have expressed their willingness to supply this ministry with wheat material on the condition of payment on credit.
