    Baghdad - INA - Amna Al-Salami
The General Company for Iraqi Ports revealed, today, Wednesday, its procedures to increase imports, stressing that its imports have become a strong support for the budget, while it disclosed its project to establish a major welcome yard aimed at conducting all transactions through automation.
The director of public relations and official spokesperson for Iraq's ports, Anmar Abdel Moneim Al-Safi, said, in a statement to the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "the ports have taken many measures in order to increase the capacity of the volume of imports and cargo, especially in the northern and southern Umm Qasr port and the port of Khor Al-Zubayr," noting that "" Among the measures that have been taken is improving the depths and returning to the design depth of the port, which is 12 and a half metres.
He explained, "The Iraqi Maritime Drilling Department has begun digging the navigation channels and berth interfaces in order for these depths to be able to receive ships with normal draft, which are large giant ships," noting that "in the past, the ships unloaded their cargo on board small ships called (coasters), and then Small ships arrive at Iraqi ports."
He added, "Currently, ships arrive from their port of departure from any country, and there are large marine lines that have been developed with large port countries, which allowed the arrival of ships from countries directly to Iraqi ports, especially after improving the depths and cleaning the navigation channels, by removing all the sinking that impede marine navigation, whether in the navigation channels or the interfaces of the docks.”
He stressed, "The ports continue to dig out the drowning people using the Hamrin crane inside the Shatt Al-Arab Canal area. As for the port of Al-Qasr and other ports, as well as the regional waters, the cleaning of these channels through the crane, so that their payloads reach 2000 tons, and it is one of the giant cranes, and there is nothing similar to it." size in the Arabian Gulf region or the Arab region.
Al-Safi pointed out that "improving the depths and cleaning the canals will attract new ships coming from the world's ports towards Iraq, considering that its ports are safe and sound, and ships can dock in them," considering that "an important and significant aspect in maximizing imports, especially since the coming ships loaded with many goods will constitute a great financial resource. to the state budget.
He continued, "The ports have become a strong support for the budget and annually supplement the state through imports that reach it through goods coming to Iraq," pointing to "the great development taking place in the northern and southern Umm Qasr ports, and the development and construction of new berths."
And he added, "The eastern bank of River No. 1 in the port of Umm Qasr, many berths were built on it through investment and contracts for joint operation, after it was a waste dump and not prepared at the port," noting that "the joint operating contracts are also a great resource for Iraqi ports, It improved the status and growth of revenues, especially since these companies dealt with large international shipping lines, and thus these companies attract shipping lines to Iraq, as well as modernizing the sidewalks with mechanisms, equipment and electronic devices, as most of the transactions have become digital and electronic.”
Al-Safi noted that "the ports are creating a large welcoming area, through which it seeks to collect everything that reaches the nearby ports and berths and conduct all customs and port transactions through automation, in addition to electronic levies and camera surveillance to ensure that all fees for incoming goods are met."
He stated, "There is a great development in the ports on an ongoing basis, as 73 ships entered the northern port of Umm Qasr only last February, in addition to the advanced and large cargos and containers, in addition to the ships and their preparation," noting that "the coming days will witness the opening of many berths at the level of Khor Al-Zubair has 4 berths, including the Japanese Misubishi berth, and these are the JICA Japanese loan projects, as well as Umm Qasr ports there with up to 4 to 5 new berths.
