Shafaq News / The head of the Kurdistan Democratic bloc in the House of Representatives called, on Wednesday, for the Iraqi government to activate the recognition of Halabja as an Iraqi governorate, as recognized by the Kurdistan Region.
The head of the bloc, Vian Sabri, told Shafaq News Agency, "The Kurdistan Regional Government has recognized Halabja as a province, but we hope the federal government also confirms this and recognizes Halabja as an Iraqi province."
Sabri added, "We will move from within the parliament to recognize Halabja as a governorate and provide it with financial allocations in the budget law and in all other related fields."
On Wednesday, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, demanded that the federal government complete all steps to turn Halabja into the 19th Iraqi province.
The head of the regional government, Masrour Barzani, also called on the federal government to resolve the procedures for converting Halabja into a governorate as soon as possible, and that this issue should not be ignored anymore, while the Kurdistan Regional Government will continue to complete the administrative structure of Halabja governorate, by establishing the remaining government departments and institutions. .
