The Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers, Hamid Naim Al-Ghazi, discussed, on Thursday, with a number of Egyptian experts in the field of water resources and agriculture, the mechanism of joint cooperation and transferring the Egyptian experience in addressing the rise in the phenomena of salinity and desertification in the southern regions of Iraq, in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Eng. Hussein Abdel Prince Bakkah.
In a statement received by Mawazine News, the Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers pointed out that the Committee for Diwani Order No. (73 of 2021) has reached advanced stages in this vital file, to address the two phenomena of high salinity in the Euphrates River basin and desertification within the governorates ( Diwaniyah, Muthanna, and Dhi Qar) and the Council of Ministers supported the committee’s recommendations to allocate the necessary funds for the project.
Al-Ghazi called on the Egyptian side to work together and transfer the Egyptian experience in this file; In order to search for non-traditional alternatives and find appropriate solutions to treat, desalinate and purify water, and exploit the draining water for irrigating crops, in addition to establishing desalination plants according to modern methods, to achieve the highest quantities of water production.
