Baghdad: Muhannad Abd al-Wahhab
After months of controversy and disagreements that brought the leaders of the Iraqi political scene to a dead end, today, Saturday, the conclusion of those rounds will be decided in a fateful session of the House of Representatives to nominate the President of the Republic and the consequent constitutional entitlements.
Many observers considered that today’s session is pivotal for the course of the entire political process, and between reassuring “the completion of the quorum” and another to achieving the “guarantor third”, the possibilities remain open between the session or not.
The head of the State of Law bloc, Atwan Al-Atwani, said: “The coordinating framework will not attend a session in which it was not agreed upon (the largest bloc), and we feel that there is an exclusion of the Shiite component, as part of the Shiites participate in a government in which the majority of Sunnis and Kurds are present, and this is an exclusion and weakening of the component. The largest,” noting “when there is a real will to form a consensual government that guarantees the largest component in government representation and participation in it, the framework will be present.”
He explained that "we do not believe in forcing the political blocs to force the opposition, and we cannot attend a session that is being prepared in this way," stressing that "the (National Stability) coalition, under which the coordinating framework belongs, owns the guarantor third, and the session will not be held without his presence."
For his part, the representative of the State of Law coalition, Firas Al-Maslmawi, said: The coordination framework and its allies have clear signatures of up to 133 signatures that guarantee them a “guarantor third” in the Saturday session, noting that “the doors of the framework are open and we do not have impossible conditions for understanding and dialogue.”
The same figures were also announced by a member of the coordination framework, Saad Al-Saadi, who confirmed that he would work to thwart the attempt to pass the Triple Alliance candidate for the presidency, "especially with the continuation of the political blockage."
On the other hand, those close to the leader of the Sadrist movement, Saleh Muhammad al-Iraqi, described the blocking third as "cunning", and launched a sharp attack on the other side of the Shiite equation from the leaders of the coordination framework.
The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, renewed, in a tweet on "Twitter", his invitation to independent deputies to participate in the session to elect the president of the republic.
In this context, the independent MP Haider Al-Salami announced, in an interview, that "a coalition for the people that includes (Extension and the New Generation) will be present to support its candidates in electing the position of President of the Republic, and we are proceeding to vote for it."
He added, "Our attendance at the session is a moral obligation, and we cannot go beyond the constitutional deadlines, and we want to move forward until we correct the political process."
In turn, the "Canon Sunrise" bloc pledged its position on attending the session by accepting a political initiative that it put forward regarding the formation of the next government, consisting of several paragraphs.
In addition, political analyst Adnan Al-Sarraj said in an interview with “Al-Sabah”: “Today’s session is pivotal, and through its results, we will determine the next course of the political process and the nature of political alignments in the event that they are not held.”
He added, "The (Save a Homeland) coalition is searching with all its capabilities to obtain the votes of independents in order to complete the session's quorum for the number of 220 deputies, while the coordination framework moves under the umbrella of the (National Stability) bloc and confidently announces its ability to disrupt the session through the (blocking) third if it does not The nationalist parties agree among themselves.”
