26 deputies from the boycott camp closest to saving Wednesday's session

Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan
Preliminary indications received by the majority team in Parliament of the possibility of expanding its seats in preparation for the session tomorrow, Wednesday. "Save the Nation", which is the largest bloc in parliament, targets more than 25 seats that are still in the "gray area".
The last number is more than the missing number of seats for the majority to pass the name of the President of the Republic, which requires at least 220 seats out of 329.
The camp of those opposed to the "president" selection session began to open channels of communication with the "Sadrists", and the return of Iranian interference is expected.
The leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, considered the last tweet about not returning to the "Al-Attar mixture" in response to the news of sending delegations from Tehran to Baghdad.
Western news agencies had reported closely the visit of the Secretary-General of the Iranian Supreme National Security Council, Ali Shamkhani, to Iraq.
Those agencies confirmed that Shamkhani, who was supposed to arrive in Baghdad on Monday, will meet with Shiite political forces and other parties.
These moves come in the wake of the continuing dispute between the Shiite forces over the formation of the largest bloc in Parliament.
Al-Sadr and his allies managed to collect 202 seats in last Saturday's session, while he still needs at least 18 deputies to obtain the two-thirds majority needed to elect the president of the republic.
Sunni parties "splinter" from the Sovereignty Alliance led by Khamis al-Khanjar appeared to be the closest to increasing the majority seats.
He described what happened in the last session of Parliament as "mistakes" in communicating with neutral groups, which are still confused between the two parties to the conflict.
According to political sources, "the Alliance of Azm, led by Muthanna al-Samarrai, is the most willing to negotiate and join the majority."
Al-Samarrai is led by 6 dissident MPs from "Al-Khanjar", in addition to 3 from the Hasm Movement, and 3 others from the Sunni MPs (from Nineveh and Kirkuk) within the Al-Aqd coalition led by PMF leader Faleh al-Fayyad.
The "coordinating framework" counted the last group within its alliance, but in fact, Azm and its partners were absent from the session and did not belong to the opposition or loyalty front.
The same happened with 14 other deputies who put their names on the boycott list, part of which was presented by the leader of the "coordinating party" Ahmed al-Asadi.
They represent 6 seats for Ishraqa Kannon, 3 deputies within the Independent Voice movement, and one representative for each of the Iraqi National Project and Kurdistan Justice.
In addition to the representative of the Yazidi component, Nayef Khalaf Sido, and two independents, including MP Basem Khashan.
Khashan admitted in a television program that his name was included in the boycotters' list to confirm his non-attendance to the session, "and I am not within the coordinating framework."
More than that, "Save a Homeland" may count on the two major Kurdish parties, the "Democratic" and "National" parties, reaching understandings that may finally bring down the boycott's hopes.
Ghaleb Al-Daami, a researcher in political affairs, indicates that the majority coalition can win over some of the boycotters in preparation for the next session.
Al-Daami told Al-Mada that "some of those who did not attend the sessions have justifications for the boycott that are different from the justifications of the coordination framework, so persuading them to attend is possible."
The "frameworkers" presented a document at the time of last Saturday's session, which they said included 126 districts for the election of the President of the Republic.
It included, according to the document, 81 deputies from the "Coordination Committee", along with the "National Union" with 18 seats, the Azm Alliance 12, the Sunrise of Kanon 6, and the voice of the independents with 3 seats.
In addition, Bassem Khashan joined the independents category, the Kurdistan Justice Group had one seat, and the Kurdistan Islamic Union had four seats.
The document was presented without signatures, with the exception of one paper that showed the signatures of 18 members of the Union, while the signatures of the rest were not published.
Political forces are considering, in order to avoid repeating the "boycott" of parliament sessions, by placing more severe penalties in dealing with those who refuse, within the internal system of the parliament.
According to sources in Parliament, there are proposals to “separate the deputy” if his absence is repeated 3 times for “the sessions that include constitutional terms” such as the election of the President of the Republic.
The First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hakim Al-Zamili, had mentioned, earlier, his intention to put in place "firm measures regarding the absence of deputies" during the upcoming parliament sessions.
Article 18 of the Parliament’s bylaw indicates that a “warning” can be issued to a representative whose absence has been repeated for 5 consecutive or 10 separate sessions, in addition to cutting off part of the “reward” whose value has not been determined.
In addition, the representative of the State of Law coalition, Muhammad Al-Ziyadi, said in a statement to (Al-Mada), that "the coordination framework with the continuation of dialogues in order to unify the Shiite position and come up with a united bloc that will present the candidate of the Prime Minister."
Al-Zayadi said, "The Alliance to Save a Nation will not be able to hold a presidential election session because it does not have 220 deputies, and what happened on Saturday will be repeated on Wednesday, and everyone is sure of that."
He pointed out that "the current political situation requires adhering to consensus in order to ensure the holding of the presidential election session first and then the formation of the government.
