The Parliamentary Finance Committee announced, on Monday, that the Emergency Support Law for Food Security and Development will provide ration items for 12 months and guarantee farmers' entitlements.
The head of the committee, Hassan Al-Kaabi, said in a speech during the committee’s meeting on the draft law, which was followed by “Mawazine News”: “The importance of the emergency support law for food security and development comes from the international situation that the world is going through from an economic crisis and high food prices, especially as the official supplier of the wheat crop. And some other food crops from Russia and Ukraine reach 50 percent."
He added, "The world's food basket depends on these two countries, and we hope that the global situation will stabilize," noting that "the rise in oil prices cast a shadow on multiple aspects, including political and economic, as there are contracts and contracts that stumbled because countries fear like what happened when the Corona pandemic spread. ".
Al-Kaabi stressed that "the Iraqi government is restricted according to the Financial Management Law, which has the right to disburse 1/12 of the expenses," noting that "the emergency support law will have a role in the event that it is organized and benefit from it directly to go towards development and vocabulary that helps the fragile and poor classes, especially as we are talking about The ration card items that have been improved, as well as providing them for 12 months, not just 8.
He stated that "in the past, it was allocating an amount of less than a trillion to the Ministry of Trade to secure the items of the ration card in this difficult circumstance, but now we are talking about 6 trillion dinars to improve the items of the ration and purchase the wheat and rye crops for this year, as well as the farmers' entitlements that will be guaranteed during this year."
