    The Parliamentary Development Institute organized a workshop on the United Nations Convention against Corruption.
    The Media Department of the House of Representatives stated in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "with the patronage and presence of Al-Zamili, the Parliamentary Development Institute, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Program, organized today an introductory workshop on the United Nations Convention against Corruption and the Doha Declaration for Parliamentarians."
    Al-Zamili indicated, according to the statement, in his speech during the session held in the Constitutional Hall of the Council, to "the serious work during the current parliamentary session to implement a real project to achieve reform," adding that "the reform project will start from careful monitoring of all the joints of the state, even the smallest administrative unit, and following up on its activities." Diagnose the defect and put in place effective treatments without resorting to the use of defamation methods that were exploited by some deputies during the past sessions to achieve personal and partisan gains.
    The First Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives praised “the role of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) as a key partner, which has a prominent role in legislative work and developing Iraqi capabilities in various fields, calling for more coordination between the House of Representatives and the program in activities related to developing the special capabilities of Iraqi parliamentarians.     Zamili noted the need to combat corruption, which is an obstacle to any endeavors to real development, in addition to its direct threat to the security of society and the family," noting that "corruption has led to the entry of drugs across borders and the increase in crime rates."
    In turn, the Director-General of the Parliamentary Development Institute, Saad Fayyad, said in his speech that "
    Fayyad added, "The Parliamentary Development Institute, based on the tasks entrusted to it and in accordance with the approved strategic plan, plays a supportive role for everything that contributes to closer cooperation with the parties concerned with the anti-corruption file, especially its tireless endeavor to strengthen partnership with the United Nations organization and implement training and development programs that enhance the capabilities, skills and capabilities of women and gentlemen.     He added, "The reform approach in which everyone believes and works to achieve and consolidate it requires us to support adherence to the values ​​of integrity, support parliamentarians in their oversight work, and play a pioneering role that establishes standards of transparency and accountability, completes the reform process, and activates the role of oversight institutions by taking advantage of international conventions, including the United Nations Convention against Combating Corruption ratified by Iraq under Law No. 35 of 2007, in addition to highlighting the most important anti-corruption agreements.
    The Director-General of the Institute explained that "the march against corruption cannot be completed without the intervention of the ladies and gentlemen of parliament. Parliamentary oversight, derived from popular representation, is the most important, prominent and clear way to protect public money, in addition to adopting transparency and ensuring accountability in accordance with the prevailing morals and values ​​in society." ".
    And Fayyad, "looking forward to the interaction of the participants in the introductory workshop through the exchange of ideas and access to international conventions in the field of anti-corruption, in a way that contributes to enriching legislative work and its future reflection on national laws related to combating corruption."
    For her part, Head of the Department of Governance and Economic Diversity, represented by the United Nations Development Program, Mohab Madani, said in her speech that "fighting corruption and promoting integrity requires concerted national efforts represented by the Parliament, the public and private sectors and civil society."
    Madani added, "The House of Representatives plays a pivotal role in combating corruption, with its role in controlling the government and public money and strengthening the legislative framework," pointing out that "the workshop aims to build on the knowledge accumulated by members of the House of Representatives on the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which It is the only binding in this field, in addition to the Doha Declaration, which is the global document aimed at setting a long-term program of work for parliamentarians in the field of combating corruption.
    In turn, the international expert of the United Nations Development Program, Hussein Hassan, reviewed the general framework of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, which includes the legal framework, its clauses and axes, as well as a set of agreements in force at the regional, Arab, European and African levels.
    The UN expert touched on specific definitions of corruption, most notably the exploitation of public authority to achieve private interests and the misuse of the delegated authority, indicating the mechanisms of combating corruption.
    The international expert, Hassan, addressed the approach of the international agreement and the purposes of the agreement, which aims to promote and strengthen measures to prevent and combat corruption, support international cooperation, enhance integrity, accountability and sound management of public affairs, noting that bilateral agreements between countries contribute to strengthening the fight against corruption, as well as the need for continuous development in the approved procedures and the amendment of Laws to keep pace with the development of corruption methods.
    Hassan also provided an overview of the Doha Declaration for parliamentarians and its most important axes, including the involvement of citizens in understanding the negative effects of corruption and the role of parliamentarians in supporting the declaration and ensuring their participation in the mechanism of reviewing the agreement, as well as enhancing international cooperation in the field of legislation.
    The session witnessed, according to the statement, discussions between the participants and the UN expert that focused on modern methods and methods in combating corruption and the role of parliamentarians in strengthening the work of the legislative authority and issuing laws that contribute to the consolidation of accountability, transparency and accountability of those involved in wasting public money, in addition to the provisions of the international agreement and the declaration, in addition to experiences. international methods of combating corruption.
