The Alliance to Save a Homeland presented a bill to criminalize normalization with Israel and stated that it will be presented in the next session of the House of Representatives, days after the head of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr announced, on Saturday, the intention of the Sadrist bloc and its allies to present a draft proposal to criminalize normalization, for a vote in Parliament. .
Article 201 of the Iraqi Penal Code stipulates that "anyone who favors or promotes the principles of Zionism, including Freemasonry, or who is affiliated with any of its institutions, or helps them financially or morally, or works in any way to achieve its objectives, shall be punished with death."
And regarding Iraq’s need for a new law in light of the existence of a paragraph in the Penal Code, legal expert Mosaddeq Adel said in an interview with “Mawazine News” that “the demand of the head of the Sadrist movement Muqtada al-Sadr to criminalize normalization and enact a law on an increase to confirm the certainty, due to the existence of similar laws.”
He added, "There is a principle and a law that criminalizes normalization, and there are provisions in the Penal Code regarding this file in which normalization and similar practices are criminalized, and such legislation, if it is issued, is for the sake of certainty, especially since Article Seven of the Constitution prohibits dealing in any kind of dealing with Israel."
