Baghdad makes financial payments to Tehran to maintain the flow of gas

Experts are skeptical about expectations of improving electricity without succumbing to the summer heat

    Baghdad - Qusay Munzer

Experts questioned the expectations of the Ministry of Electricity regarding the improvement of energy supply for citizens during the coming summer, after making financial payments to the Iranian side for the purpose of perpetuating gas supplies to power plants. They stressed that (with the beginning of the summer season, the ministry deliberately makes promises that it is able to meet the needs of energy demand, but these promises fade with rising temperatures and the lack of fuel supplied from Iran), and they added that (the energy towers are exposed during the season to sabotage attacks, and it became illogical Arguing with illogical excuses, as it is necessary to search for real solutions that contribute to covering the energy shortage in the event of an interruption in Iranian gas supplies, as well as accelerating the steps of linking with the Gulf, Turkey and Jordan), stressing that (the citizens’ need for electricity increases annually, and therefore the government must adapt to that Through the momentum of efforts and work to establish additional stations to meet the needs of the summer).

In turn, the ministry confirmed that it had made strong financial payments to the Iranian side for the purpose of increasing the system's launches during the summer. And the ministry’s spokesman, Ahmed Al-Abadi, said yesterday that “the ministry made strong payments stipulating compliance with the terms of the contract concluded with the Iranian side, as the Iranian understanding was great and the increase in the system’s launches will coincide with the increase in processing hours during the summer,” adding, “The alternative to Iranian gas is What the fuel plan in the Ministry of Oil is working on by ensuring a fuel plan aimed at rehabilitating gas fields and benefiting from them in providing energy), and he added that (the ministry has formed an operations room under the direction of the Prime Minister, to undertake field tours to determine the readiness of stations, transport lines and the distribution sector during the season Al-Saifi), and pointed out that (preparing an emergency plan for the next summer season, with the continuation of periodic maintenance work for production stations, including obstetric units that have been suspended for a long time), and went on to say that (production capacity has now reached the threshold of 21 thousand megawatts, and it is scheduled to rise during summer to 25 thousand megawatts after the introduction of additional generating units,in order to increase processing hours).

Minister Adel Karim had confirmed that Iraq owes about one billion and 690 million dollars to Iran, and it cannot pay Iran's financial dues directly because of the sanctions. He added, "We have to increase electricity production by 1,500 megawatts annually," and continued, "We owe Iran about one billion and 690 million dollars, and we were a little late in paying Iran's dues, and we cannot pay the money to the Iranian Ministry of Energy directly as a result of the sanctions." On the other hand, the Ministry of Oil decided to postpone the application of the new pricing for fuel oil, which is supplied for oxidized asphalt plants, until the end of next May, and to adopt the new price starting from the first of next June.
