Parliament: Baghdad seeks to end the energy era in the Kurdistan Region
Shafaq News/ Kurdistan Parliament member Ali Hama Saleh said on Sunday that the federal government is seeking to impose its control over more than 40 percent of the region's oil and gas, and this means the end of the energy era in Kurdistan.
Hama Saleh said in a post on the social networking sites "Facebook" today, "Baghdad wants to acquire 42% of the region's oil and gas, which are (Khormala and Kormore), which means the end of the era of Kurdistan's energy (oil, gas, and electricity)."
He explained that "the North Oil Company filed a lawsuit with the Federal Court against the region on charges of acquiring the (Khormel) and (Kormore) oil fields by force of arms in a plan to impose control over the two oil fields.
Hama Saleh also pointed out that "the two oil fields represent the spirit of the region's oil and gas production process, and they produce 42 percent of Kurdistan's oil, and they have the best specifications."
He noted that the "Khormala field is the largest oil field in the region, and there is no foreign oil company in it, and it is currently managed by the local "KAR" company at a low cost, and the Kormore field is managed by (Dana Gas) and its partners (..)", considering "these two fields represent the spirit of energy policy, and the economic strength of the Kurdistan Region.
The North Oil Company had claimed yesterday, Saturday, in a statement, that "an armed force affiliated with the regional government, accompanied by a technical team, overran the wells (Bay Hassan / David field) with the aim of exploiting the production capacities of these wells for the benefit of the regional government."
The Kurdistan Regional Government, through its spokesman, denied all the news and allegations claiming that, with the support of an armed force, it had seized and occupied several oil wells in the "Bai Hassan" and "Wadawa" fields of the North Oil Company in Kirkuk governorate.
