Today, Monday, Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi confirmed the completion of 90% of the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project.

On April 9, 2013, Iraq and Jordan signed a framework agreement to extend a pipeline to transport Iraqi crude oil from Basra to the export terminals in the port of Aqaba, on the Red Sea coast, at a cost of about $18 billion.

Safadi, in answering a question to the Alsumaria News reporter about the benefit achieved from the joint work between Baghdad, Amman and Cairo, during the press conference held in Baghdad today, said that "nothing will succeed if it is not based on the mutual benefit of all parties." Pointing out that "the electrical interconnection project will provide energy for Iraq, and the common benefit is achieved through revitalizing the industrial city, which will provide what the people of Iraq need in addition to the peoples of Egypt and Jordan."

And he indicated, "90% of the Basra-Aqaba oil pipeline project has been completed, and the steps for its completion are awaiting completion."

Al-Safadi stressed the need for these projects to be "a starting point for international and regional cooperation," considering cooperation and integration "a necessity to confront problems and crises."

He continued, "Cooperation must be within the political and economic frameworks, as well as confronting terrorism, which poses a threat to everyone, and there must be joint cooperation to eliminate it."

This morning, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry and Jordanian Ayman Safadi arrived in Baghdad. During their visit, the two ministers held meetings with the three presidencies.
