Today, Monday, the Federal Minister of Planning, Khaled Battal Al-Najm, announced the date for implementing the general population and housing census in Iraq.
The Ministry of Planning stated, in a statement, that "Planning Minister Khaled Battal Al-Najm chaired the meeting of the Supreme Census Authority, which was held in the Ministry of Planning, and was attended by Representative Muhammad Al-Baldawi, representing the House of Representatives, the head of the Statistics Authority in the Kurdistan Region, Sirwan Muhammad Mohi, and the representative of the United Nations Fund. The United Population Council, Mahdi Al-Alaq, and representatives of the ministries and relevant authorities, in addition to the head of the operations room, Diaa Awad, and the Executive Director of the Census, Samir Khudhair Hadi.
Al-Najm said that "the date for implementing the general population and housing census will be carried out in the last quarter of next year 2023, in an electronic manner and using internationally approved statistical standards."
The minister added that "the decision to set the date for conducting the census comes in light of the great importance of this national project, especially after half a century has passed in which Iraq has not witnessed a general census of the population," noting that "the results of this census will contribute to addressing many problems, foremost of which is the distribution of wealth." justice between the provinces.
He pointed out that "the ministry has completed the electronic form for the census, after presenting it to all ministries and relevant authorities," noting that "there is a national consensus on the necessity of implementing the census, and therefore one of the duties of the Minister of Planning is to announce the date, according to the powers granted to him."

The meeting of the Supreme Census Authority witnessed, according to the statement, "discussing many files, including the approval of the census form, as well as setting the initial date for its implementation in the last quarter of next year."
