The statements of the "Coordination" conflicting about the nomination of al-Maliki and the Committee of "Sadr Prayers" reach Dhi Qar!
Baghdad / Tamim Al-Hassan
The wings of the coordinating framework put more than a list of supposed positions for each group in the next government, at a time when the Sadrist movement began touring the provinces for the unified post-Eid prayer.
These lists divide positions at three levels in the state administration, while competition is raging within the Shiite bloc for two main positions, the prime minister and the deputy speaker of parliament.
Everyone is waiting for mid-July (after Eid) due to leaks about my chest's escalation, and the return of Parliament after the end of the legislative recess.
It has been about a month since the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, decided to retire from the political process, while his opponents are still unable to form a government.
Since then, the "Coordination" has repeated its requests from the Kurds to agree on choosing a president, at a time when the latter decided to postpone the discussion of this issue until after the Eid holiday (which lasts 9 days).
The name of the next president of the republic is considered a pressure factor on the coordination framework, especially after al-Sadr attacked the Shiite group's candidate, Barham Salih, accusing him of having "normalizing tendencies" with Israel.
The "framework" hopes that the two main Kurdish parties, the "Democratic" and the "Union", agree on a consensual candidate for the presidency so that the former does not have to vote for "Saleh", then he will have a direct confrontation with al-Sadr.
Last week, Al-Sadr attacked the candidate of the "National Union" for the presidency, Barham Salih, after the latter refused to sign the law "criminalizing normalization", which was passed after the insistence of the leader of the movement.
Al-Sadr said in a tweet he published at the time, "It is very, very shameful that the so-called President of the Republic of Iraq (Barham) refuses to sign the law (criminalizing normalization), so it is shameful for the people that their president is normalizing and unpatriotic, but rather subordinating to the West and the East."
He added, "I absolve him of this crime before God and the Iraqi people, and I regret his candidacy for the presidency before and after."
So far, the two parties (the Democratic Party and the Union) insist on naming each party's candidate. And recently, Sherif Suleiman, a member of the Democratic Party, said, speaking of his party: "There is never a concession on the presidency."
On the other hand, the leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Mullah Bakhtiar, considered that Barham Salih is no longer the only candidate in the "framework", in the first change in the positions of the "coordinating body" after the attack of the leader of the Sadrist movement on "Saleh".
Bakhtiar said in a press statement that "the only candidate supported by the Union for the presidency, Barham Salih, is not the only candidate for the framework."
Bakhtiar attributed this to the inability of the "coordinating framework" to collect the 220 seats needed to pass the presidential candidate, adding: "This is the reason for being soft with the Kurdistan Democratic Party, so that they can win it with the Sunnis."
The "Kurdistan Democratic Party" and the Sunnis in the Alliance of Sovereignty fear that promises will be blown away after the formation of the government by the Shiite faction.
The "Coordination" had given priority promises to the two parties about withdrawing the factions from the vicinity of Kurdistan and settling the financial and oil issues between Baghdad and the region.
The "Coordination" also amended the internal system of Parliament, granting Muhammad al-Halbousi, the leader of the "sovereignty" and the speaker of parliament, the full authority in the presidency, unchallenged, after canceling the phrase "presidency" and transforming it into a president and two deputies.
But all this has not yet amounted to what can be considered a stable agreement between the three parties, and the "Democratic" and "Sunni" talk about a worrying history of the Shiite forces retreating from their promises.
In the midst of this, there is a "fight" over positions within the "coordinating framework", as informed sources refer to (Al-Mada) to "place each party or group within the framework of a list of positions they want to obtain in the next government."
Those sources confirm that "the positions requested by the leaders within the framework (with the exception of the prime minister and deputy speaker of parliament) are distributed on three levels: security, political, and economic positions."
The sources go on saying: "Each party wants to have a security position and control over economic joints," noting that "there is a dispute over oil institutions, including the management of SOMO."
In addition, "a small force within the framework that has a few seats - the sources refused to mention its name - is fighting for the vacant position of Deputy Speaker of Parliament after the resignation of the former deputy, Hakim al-Zamili."
There is also still conflicting statements within the "coordinating framework" about the nomination of Nuri al-Maliki for the post of the next prime minister.
In a televised interview, MP Ali Al-Fatlawi of the Al-Fateh Alliance said that "Al-Maliki and MP Muhammad Al-Sudani are candidates within the coordinating framework for the position of the next prime minister."
On the other hand, Muhammad Al-Baldawi, the deputy of Asaib, denied in a press statement: "The name of Al-Maliki or any other name for the prime minister was proposed."
Haider al-Abadi, the leader of the victory coalition, had threatened the day before yesterday, after a meeting with the "coordinator", to withdraw from the formation of the government if it did not form a "middle government", threats launched in conjunction with the news of Maliki's nomination.
But after that, the "coalition" and through speakers returned to gather the situation, and confirm that "no names were presented at the last meeting for the prime minister."
This confusion in positions comes at a time when the "Coordination Committee" is watching the movements of their opponent, Al-Sadr, who is rallying to a united prayer of millions, with Parliament resuming its sessions after the Eid holiday.
Yesterday, Hakim al-Zamili and the seven members of the committee in charge of arranging for the "prayer" arrived in Dhi Qar, and he sent confusing messages to the "Coordination Committee", especially since Nasiriyah (the governorate center) had a major role in the October demonstrations.
