On Thursday, the Parliamentary Finance Committee commented on the existence of a defect in the salary system in the government sector, according to a statement by Minister of Planning Khaled Batal Al-Najm.
Committee member Jamal Cougar said, in an interview, that "there is a trend by the government to legislate a new salary scale, but the circumstances that Iraq has experienced recently postponed this issue, especially after the government was transformed into a daily caretaker government."
And Cougar indicated that "the new salary scale legislation is exclusively the prerogative of the Iraqi government, and there is no authority for the Iraqi parliament to legislate such a law."
He added, "The new salary scale law can be legislated by the new government, and this new ladder will certainly address the imbalance in the salary system in the government sector and lift the injustice against some categories of employees."
