“A postman is nothing but.” Analysts downplay Biden's vision regarding Iraq's transformation into a "diplomatic platform"

Political analysts downplayed the vision presented by US President Joe Biden, in which he said that Iraq has turned into a diplomatic platform in the region, especially between Riyadh and Tehran, and at the same time pointed out Baghdad's inability to solve its internal problems.
In an article published on the Washington Post, Biden said that Iraq had become a "diplomatic platform", especially between Saudi Arabia and Iran, after it had long been a source of proxy conflicts and regional rivalries, and also indicated that Washington would help Iraq and other countries to overcome the political stalemate.
Biden also indicated that the US embassy in Baghdad was subjected to the most violent attack in the era of the previous administration. He also said that the combat mission of his country's forces ended in Iraq after the defeat of ISIS, and its tasks are currently limited to supporting the Iraqi forces to prevent the emergence of ISIS again.
Biden talked about the series of "accomplishments" he has achieved since the new administration arrived at the White House 18 months ago, and published his article prior to his visit to the Middle East on 13-16 of this month.
Iraqi political analyst Yahya al-Kubaisi says: Biden's article is only a "review that does not express the true reality" in the region.
He added that Biden, since his arrival at the White House, has been trying "to show unrealistic achievements, especially in light of the attack on Democrats... and the economic situation in America."
This comes at a time when the Iraqi political forces have failed to overcome the political stalemate and form the new government, despite the passage of eight months since the October 2021 elections.
As for whether Iraq has already become a "diplomatic platform" as Biden sees it, Al-Kubaisi said, "I do not think that Iraq is capable of playing this role... Iraq is nothing but a postman, and there is a big difference between being a postman or a mediator" to bring Saudi Arabia closer. and Iran.
He continued, "Iraq has openly and clearly entered the midst of trench warfare in the region since 2011, and has become part of the Iranian axis... When it is a trench war and a war of polarization, talking about mediation (which is carried out by the Iraqi government) will be absurd."
When asked if the Biden administration was intent on helping solve the political crisis in Iraq, Al-Kubaisi played down those efforts, noting that Biden mentioned Iraq twice in his article, and also compared the current political stalemate in the country to what exists in Lebanon and Libya.
After countless political initiatives, the political process in Iraq has not moved a step forward, as it requires consensus between the Shiite parties that have dominated the political process since the fall of the previous regime in 2003, especially the coordination framework that includes forces affiliated with the Popular Mobilization.
In an interview with Kurdistan 24, political analyst Dilshad Namiq believes that successive Iraqi governments since the fall of the previous regime have not been able to create an atmosphere of trust with the surrounding countries.
He continued, "Iraq's relations with those countries were not stable, especially since the neighboring countries deal with the Iraqi components, as Turkey deals with the Turkmen, Iran deals with the Shiites and the Sunni countries deal with the Sunnis."
Namiq pointed out that Iraq has a strong geopolitical position, which prompts those countries to have the same characteristic, and said, "Perhaps this article is a message to Iran to get Iraq out of its control, especially since Iraq has always been a victim of US-Iranian conflicts."
He added that the US president wants the countries of the region, including the Gulf states, to strengthen their relations with Iraq, which he sees as an opportunity to distance Baghdad from Iranian influence.
