The Parliamentary Services and Reconstruction Committee revealed, on Wednesday, a move to approve the Roads and Bridges Law, noting that the beginning may be the establishment of 8 investment roads in the capital, Baghdad, and others in Nineveh and Basra.
The head of the committee, MP Mahma Khalil, said in an interview with the official "Al-Sabah" newspaper, which was followed by "Mawazine News", that the committee "is in the process of introducing a draft law for roads and bridges and discussing it with the Investment Authority, the Investment and Development Committee, experts and specialists."
He added, that the committee "demanded the establishment of eight investment roads in the capital, Baghdad, because it needed them due to its size, population density, and the traffic momentum that it suffers from almost daily, in addition to Nineveh, and Basra Governorate, which is the only sea port in Iraq, in addition to that it is adjacent to more than one country. nearby".
He pointed out that "investment roads and streets are important, as they measure the progress and development of the country, which must be in accordance with standards agreed upon between the government and the private sector through solid companies that have a long history in the field of road construction."
Concerning the costs on the citizen, Khalil stated, "The sums of levies from cars that use investment roads will be appropriate and through electronic devices placed at the beginning or end of the road, provided that rest houses, restaurants and maintenance workshops are established on the road, which opens the door to employing manpower."
