     Baghdad: Farah Al-Khafaf

The announcement of Anbar Governor Ali Farhan, the discovery of several new oil wells in Nukhaib and Tharthar, aroused great interest during the past few days. This is due to the importance of this discovery and its timing, with the global markets witnessing a rise in crude oil and gas prices, at a time when the Ministry of Oil revealed the existence of advanced discussions to develop the Akkaz gas field.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Oil, Assem Jihad, said in an interview with “Al-Sabah” that “the ministry is showing great interest in the gas file in the western region,” explaining that “the crutch field was offered in the licensing rounds, and it was for the (Korean Kokaz) company, and the company started development operations. However, the events of 2014 and the control of the terrorist “ISIS” over some areas of Iraq, including Anbar Governorate, have halted development operations in this field and the company was forced to withdraw by mutual consent, which led to the obstruction of the project to develop this important field, which is one of the largest gas fields, which is called (free gas) and not the gas associated with oil operations, that is, gas is extracted from the ground.”
He pointed out that "the presence of hydrocarbon compositions in the western region is expected to contain large quantities of gas or oil, but indicators show the presence of more gas than oil," revealing "advanced discussions with one of the international companies to develop the Akkaz field."
The Crutch field is located south of the city of Al-Qaim, and is considered the largest gas field in Iraq, as it contains 5.3 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. It is hoped that the project will provide tens of thousands of job opportunities, and experts confirm that if Crutch gas is invested, its production will be 388 (Mmqq) per day. It constitutes about 22 percent of Iraq's current need of gas, which amounts to 1,766 (milk) per day.
