Shafaq News/ The leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, Mullah Bakhtiar, said on Monday that the Iraqi situation is heading towards an abyss, and this poses a threat to the Kurdistan Region, calling on the Kurdish parties to prepare for any emergency.
Bakhtiar told Shafaq News Agency, "Iraq is heading towards the abyss, and we are not confident that Kurdistan Region addresses its stability with Baghdad or not. Unfortunately, the trends taken by the Kurdish forces in Baghdad after the elections by going to it with four different agendas; none of them was sincere in unification of the Kurdish forces.
He added that "the National Union and the Democratic Party insisted unrivaledly on their decision, and even after Baghdad reached the political stalemate, neither of them changed its policy," pointing out that Iraq lives in a dangerous situation and can no longer speak about democracy, freedom and civility easily again. And that the Iraqi situation has made the risks to the Kurdistan region relatively less, since any international agreement at the expense of the Kurds will not happen or be delayed under the current circumstance.
Bakhtiar indicated, "In the event that a civil war erupts in Iraq, this will lead to an increase in the disintegration of the Kurdish forces and the government of the two administrations will appear as a reality, stressing the need for" democracy and the Patriotic Union and other forces to think about how to find a common program and prepare for any eventuality. He pointed out that he supports "radical change, but this path will not proceed because the tax will be heavy. On Monday afternoon, the capital, Baghdad, witnessed a demonstration by the audience of the coordination framework, which includes a group of Shiite parties near the suspension bridge leading to the Green Zone, after an invitation from the "Organizing Committee to Support Legitimacy and Preserve State Institutions", which came in response to the open sit-in of supporters of the Sadrist movement in Parliament and Sadr's call to change the political system.
The Iraqi street is awaiting what will happen to the situation in the capital, Baghdad, after counter calls from the leader of the Sadrist movement on the one hand, and the forces of the Shiite coordination framework on the other hand, to demonstrate in front of and inside the green walls.
The dispute is intensifying between the Sadrists, who are holding a sit-in at the Iraqi parliament's headquarters in the Green Zone, and the coordination framework that called on its supporters to demonstrate near it.
Yesterday, large numbers of supporters of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, stormed the Iraqi parliament building, in the second incursion within days, and announced an open sit-in until those they described as "corrupt" were expelled.
Supporters of the Coordination Framework demonstrated in Baghdad today, Monday, and tried to storm the Green Zone before the law enforcement forces confronted them, only to withdraw later.
On Monday, a number of Iraqi provinces witnessed demonstrations in support of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, and his call to demonstrate in the provinces, with the exception of Najaf province, while Nineveh province joined the demonstrations in support of the Sadrists for the first time.
