For the second week, al-Sadr's supporters continue their sit-in in the vicinity of Parliament with the same demands. Dissolving Parliament, and holding early elections that do not include old faces.
The story started from the Ministry of Defense gate at the end of the Al-Jumhuriya Bridge, and although the road to Parliament is closer if you continue in a straight line, the protesters preferred to turn left to pass through the Green Zone, where government headquarters and diplomatic missions are.
This turn may have been to gain more time and show strength and numbers on the road.
As soon as the crowd began to reach this door, cheers and chants erupted, and within minutes they were able to sit on the red benches.
Despite the temperatures that broke the fifty mark, the protest pace continued inside and outside the parliament building, making the political scene in the country complicated after the crowds insisted on staying and waiting for the instructions of tenderness.
The number of protesters reached the most, at the end of the sixth day of the protest, after 4 provinces joined in preparation for Friday prayers in the celebrations square, and entry to Parliament was not limited to the staff gate, as the back gate of representatives and presidents was also filled with protesters after its opening.
In the celebration square, the prayer was held on the seventh day. The number of arrivals at mid-afternoon on Friday could not be estimated, but in the general view it was close to a million worshipers.
Mr. Muhannad Al-Moussawi's sermon confirmed Al-Sadr's insistence on maintaining the sit-in until Parliament was dissolved so that the same scene would continue, and the only change was the evacuation of Parliament and the protest in its surroundings.
Today, the protesters inaugurated new tents around the parliament, enough to double the existing number, and this is an indication of the expansion of the protest area in the coming days.
