Baghdad / Obelisk: Today, Friday, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the achievement of self-sufficiency for 15 crops, while indicating that it is close to achieving self-sufficiency for animal products.
A spokesman for the Minister of Agriculture, Hadi Al-Yasiri, said, in a press statement, that achieving self-sufficiency in the domestic product for agricultural products is accompanied by requirements and requirements that must be met, indicating that among these requirements are the financial abundance and the annual financial allocation that falls within the allocations to support farmers to provide vaccines, veterinary medicines and pesticides. .
He added that among the requirements is also the provision of sound inputs for agricultural production, foremost of which is the abundance of water necessary for the implementation of agricultural plans and the cultivation of sufficient areas to achieve productivity that meets local self-sufficiency of products, explaining that all these matters stand in the way of self-sufficiency in crops.
He added that despite the great challenges, Iraq has achieved self-sufficiency for 15 crops for vegetables, and has approached self-sufficiency for animal products, particularly poultry, by a large percentage, explaining that there is a decline due to the crises that Iraq is exposed to in particular, foremost of which is climate change and water scarcity in addition to the Corona crisis. and others.
