Planning apologizes for creating a new area in Basra
The Ministry of Planning has announced its apology for approving the request to create the Khor Al-Zubair district in Basra at the present time, indicating that the district has completed the requirements for its creation and is awaiting the resumption of work in the new administrative units.
And the ministry said in a letter addressed to the provincial office and one of Basra’s representatives, which Al-Mada obtained a copy of, that the recent directives from the Prime Minister provide for postponing the creation of new administrative units to the next government and according to the letter of the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers on 12488 on 4/6/2022 .
In her response to the requests submitted by the provincial office and Representative Zahra Al-Bajari, she stressed that the requirements of Khor Al-Zubair district will be completed, pending the resumption of work by creating new administrative units, so that the Ministry can give it the administrative code and include it in the directory of the administrative units of the Republic of Iraq. The city of Khor Al Zubair is located in the Basra Governorate, and it is one of the major industrial areas. In addition to the port of Khor Al Zubair, it contains a group of factories and companies such as (the petrochemical plant, the General Company for the Fertilizer Industry, the iron and steel plant, and liquid gas).
Khor Al Zubair contains the Khor Al Zubair gas electric plant and an iron and steel plant, but this plant is still destroyed and does not work.
Most of the residents of Khor Al-Zubair are employees in the industrial facility. The city contains several mosques and many Husseiniyas, such as the Husseiniya of Al-Zahraa in the fertilizers and others. The city is divided into areas such as the fertilizer houses in relation to its residents from the employees of the fertilizer plant, and the Indian and Korean in relation to the builders of these houses, who are Indians and Koreans, as well as areas Residential complexes of three-storey apartments and a newly distributed residential area called Al-Baqer District. The city also contains a post office.
Khor Al Zubair is considered the most polluted area because of the surrounding factories. The State Company for Fertilizers Industry is one of the most important factories in Iraq, which annually produces 1,000 tons of urea fertilizer and is exported through Khor Al Zubair port, which is 5 km away. Khor Al Zubair also suffers from the problem of electrical power.
