The leader of the Wisdom Movement, Ammar al-Hakim, expressed his desire to intensify dialogues between partners and parties in the Iraqi political scene, to overcome the current suffocation and proceed with the achievement of constitutional obligations and national reunification.
This came in a statement on the occasion of the anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, today, Tuesday (August 16, 2022),
Below is the text of the statement:
“We are pleased to extend our congratulations and blessings to Mr. Masoud Barzani and to the Kurdistan Democratic Party leadership, cadres and masses on the occasion of the seventy-sixth anniversary of its founding.
A track record of perseverance, confronting dictatorship, and then moving to the stage of building a new Iraq alongside the rest of the national forces in a strenuous democratic path for which Iraqis made huge sacrifices.
On this occasion, we look forward to intensifying dialogues between the partners and parties of the Iraqi political scene, to overcome the current suffocation, and to proceed with the accomplishment of constitutional obligations and national reunification in one course of action.
Greetings to the beloved people of Kurdistan, and greetings to the dear people of Iraq.”
Iraqis fear the continuation of the political impasse that hinders the formation of state institutions, which are responsible for the advancement of the country, which suffers from security, economic and political turmoil.
It is noteworthy that achieving the quorum in the House of Representatives, which is required to hold a session to elect the President of the Republic, which is set at 220 deputies out of 329, was not achieved, in light of the political differences and tension, which threaten to dissolve Parliament and go towards early elections if the election of the new President of the Republic is repeated, while The leader of the Sadrist movement took a decision to resign all of the 73 deputies, as the Sadrist movement submitted their resignations to Parliament Speaker Muhammad al-Halbousi, including the first deputy speaker of Parliament, Hakim al-Zamili, and then the latter agreed to it, and after that the replacement deputies took the constitutional oath.
It is noteworthy that the Supreme Judicial Council, in response to the request of the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, to dissolve the Iraqi Council of Representatives, by saying that the Council does not have the authority to dissolve the Council of Representatives and its tasks are specified under Article (3) of the Supreme Judicial Council Law No. 45 of 2017. Which in its entirety is related to the administration of the judiciary only and does not include any authority that allows the judiciary to interfere in the matters of the legislative or executive authorities.
Baghdad witnessed mass demonstrations on Wednesday (July 27, 2022), during which the demonstrators stormed the Iraqi parliament building, and withdrew after the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, asked them to do so. Then, on Saturday (July 30, 2022), the demonstrators returned to the Green Zone and the parliament building. The start of an open sit-in, and the coordination framework responded to the Sadrists’ demonstrations with a demonstration near the Green Zone from the side of the Muallaq Bridge, on Monday afternoon (August 1, 2022), and then withdrew from the place.
On Friday (August 12, 2022), the supporters of the Sadrist movement held a Friday prayer in the Green Zone. Supporters of the coordination framework responded to them in the afternoon of the same day with a demonstration in front of the Green Zone from the side of the suspension bridge, and then they set up the sit-in tents.
