An American vision in harmony with Al-Sadr's call: Hurry up to get the crowd out of the green

The American “Washington Institute” called on the United States and the partner countries to demand the Iraqi government, especially its current Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, to press for the removal of all armed militias from the Green Zone in the capital, Baghdad.
These trends are consistent with several calls issued by the leader of the Sadrist movement, Muqtada al-Sadr, regarding militias, and even recently went beyond that to Al-Kazemi’s demand to dissolve all armed factions, which “claim affiliation with the Popular Mobilization Forces, but they do not comply with the Iraqi security leadership.”
In a report, the institute described the militias as "the long-standing cancer at the heart of Iraqi government stability and diplomatic security."
In its report, the American Institute called on the United States and its partners to urge Baghdad to “expel the militias, including those that disguise themselves as government-run military units, and are based in the Green Zone and receive support from Iran, such as (Hezbollah Brigades and Asa’ib). Ahl al-Haq, and Harakat al-Nujaba),” which are groups listed by the United States on the terrorist lists.
green blood
The report mentioned, in the bloody night’s events in the Green Zone, that “units in the Popular Mobilization opened fire on the Sadrists and forced them to retreat to the northern entrances to the region, and that when the Sadrists began to mobilize their followers again, and began shooting at the international zone, the Iraqi security forces were the the clearest goals.
The US report indicated that "the Iraqi security forces showed great restraint, with the exception of the Popular Mobilization Units," explaining that "the militias in general, whether those affiliated with al-Sadr, or those backed by Iran, operate outside the control of the Prime Minister and the Joint Operations Command."
He added that "the elements of the crowd used live ammunition against defenseless civilians inside the international zone, which confirms the necessity of removing all the Popular Mobilization units from the area not only for the safety of the Iraqi government, but also for the safety of the foreign diplomatic corps."
And after the report indicated that there were different estimates of the size of the Popular Mobilization Forces within the International Zone, between 500 and 10,000, and that their number had decreased during Al-Kazemi’s mandate, it considered that “the recent clashes showed that even the small number of the Popular Mobilization Forces can cause chaos and great damage.” Even for the sake of the international relations of Iraq.”
take out the crowd
The report considered that "the popular crowd, which did not adhere to discipline, was behind the outbreak of a comprehensive one-night battle in the heart of the international zone, causing Baghdad to be flooded once again in conditions similar to the civil war."
He pointed out that "this is not the first time that the Popular Mobilization has badly exploited its position within the Green Zone," recalling that "the militants supported by Iran, have incited to launch attacks against the American and British embassies and Iraqi officials, including the prime minister himself."
Al-Kazemi's strength
Regarding all of the above, the “Washington Institute” in its report warned the Iraqi security forces and their commander-in-chief, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, that he has the legitimacy and moral duty to “demand all militias and large personal guard forces to leave the Green Zone, and American officials must pay the order to do so.”
The US report noted that Al-Kazemi possesses the possibility of the biggest step to remove all militias from the international zone, and that this would reduce the risk of new clashes, and then begin to eradicate the long-standing cancer at the heart of government stability and diplomatic security.
The report concluded by saying: “Regardless of Al-Kazemi’s political future, the international community must remind him that he can leave the lasting legacy of establishing a government center completely controlled by the elements of the Internal Security Forces loyal to the Iraqi government.”
The American Institute warned, at the conclusion of the report, by saying, “If Baghdad fails to benefit from this awakening call and leaves the instigators of this week’s street battle in their places, this will be another indication that the existing government is weak, and that foreign partners are absent.”
