The Iranian Minister of Interior visits Iraq after a phone call by a Vice President with Al-Kazemi
Shafaq News/ The Iranian semi-official "Fars" news agency reported that the Iranian Minister of Interior, Ahmed Vahidi, will travel to Iraq today, Wednesday.
And the agency said in a brief news, that "Wahidi is scheduled to go to Iraq today, Wednesday, to hold talks with Iraqi officials to solve the problems faced by some Iranian visitors and facilitate the process of their entry into Iraqi territory."
In this context, the Iranian authorities called on their citizens to refrain from going to the Khosravi (Mandhari) border, which links the Iraqi province of Diyala with Iran at the present time.
The authorities said in a statement, "Visitors wishing to travel from the Khosravi border crossing to the Arba'in visit should refrain from visiting this border for the time being."
She added, "The Iraqi side does not have favorable conditions on these borders, including providing water and transporting pilgrims."
And she added, "The ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Iraq is trying to solve the problem."
Fars News Agency also reported that "the Iranian First Vice President, Muhammad Mokhber, telephoned Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi and discussed with him issues of mutual interest."
In this context, Al-Kazemi's office said, in a statement received to Shafaq News Agency, that "Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kazemi received a phone call from the Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Muhammad Mokhber."
Mokhber stressed, according to the statement, "the importance of the national dialogue initiative and the Iraqi government's efforts to bring views closer, praising the approach of wisdom and rationality in addressing the political crisis in Iraq."
During the call, they discussed the development of bilateral relations between the two countries, and ways to enhance them in the interest of the peoples of the two neighboring countries, and also discussed the most important files of common interest.
The contact touched on the efforts of the government in its various institutions to provide facilities and security protection for all visitors who celebrate the Arbaeen of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him) in the holy city of Karbala.
And yesterday, Tuesday, the Iraqi Border Ports Authority revealed that more than 173,000 foreign visitors have entered the country by land and air to participate in the fortieth visit that falls on Saturday 17 September.
The official spokesman for the Border Ports Authority and a member of the government media cell, Alaa Al-Din Al-Qaisi, told Shafaq News Agency, "88,644 visitors entered through Zurbatiya port in Wasit governorate, while 15,550 visitors entered through Al-Sheeb port in Maysan."
In Basra, "54,786 visitors entered through the Shalamcheh port, and 698 visitors came through the Safwan port," according to Al-Qaisi.
In Diyala, "9,380 visitors entered through the Al-Mundhiriya port," while 507 visitors entered through Baghdad International Airport, and 3,620 visitors entered through Najaf International Airport, bringing the final number to 173,185 visitors, according to Al-Qaisi.
