    Economy News-Baghdad

Today, Friday, the Ministry of Water Resources warned of the difficulty of securing drinking water and irrigation in the coming season if the level of drought rises to what it called the third limit, while it announced a plan to manage drought .
The director of the Iraqi National Center for Water Resources Management in the ministry, Hatem Hamid, told the Iraqi News Agency (INA), that "water releases from dams are planned for the winter season and the current summer season, as we relied on available storage in addition to the revenues that we receive ."
He added that "the releases were planned in a way that ensures justice for all governorates to secure priority for drinking and water for irrigation of agricultural orchards by 50%, in addition to releases towards the marshes to secure drinking and irrigation water," explaining that "the released water from the Tigris River towards the Al-Hawizeh Marsh is only sufficient to block the drinking water." to the marsh dwellers .”
He added, "Water is limited in the tanks, and it cannot be released all of it," stressing "the necessity of sustaining water in the tanks for the next winter season ."
He stressed that "the current season is the third in which we suffer from water scarcity, as water releases are more than revenues," noting that "there is a strategic plan for drought management ."
He continued: "We are currently in the second period of drought, and in the next season, the decline may reach the third level, which is a very severe scarcity, and we will face great difficulty in securing drinking water and watering orchards," stressing "the need for the cooperation of citizens and local governments and not to exceed the quotas." water so that we can secure drinking water and irrigation water for the coming year .”
He pointed out that "Syria used to release more than Iraq's quota to help solve the problems of water scarcity internally, but it decreased to less than 50%," attributing the reason to "Turkey's reduction of water releases from the Euphrates River to Syria and Iraq ."
And he indicated that "the water releases of the Tigris River by Turkey are less than the prescribed quota as a result of water scarcity," noting that "the situation of the Turkish dams is good and it is possible to increase the releases towards Iraq to overcome the scarcity ."
He stressed that "the Turkish side promised us to increase the launches, but so far they are not at the required level."
