The Ministry of Industry and Minerals announced, on Tuesday, the experimental operation of a petrochemical plant in Basra for the production of paper and stationery.
Adviser to the Ministry of Industry, Qaisar al-Hashemi, said in an interview with the official news agency, Mawazine News, that "the trial operation of the petrochemical plant in Basra was carried out with self-capacity without a partner or investor," noting that "this plant produced notebook paper and school stationery within self-potential."
Al-Hashemi added that "the production line was opened by the Minister of Industry and the general manager of the company," noting that "there are serious discussions with an Italian company to invest in the paper mill in Maysan, which has reached the final stages."
He added that "there is one obstacle facing the investment of the Maysan and Mosul paper factories, which is the presence of trespassers on the land allocated for the cultivation of cane, which enters as a raw material in the paper industry," noting that "there is an opportunity to invest agricultural land in a larger size to increase the paper crop in addition to providing job opportunities and settlement.
