The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) affirmed that its work is carried out in full respect of Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity.
And the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that Mawazine News received a copy of it, that "the Ambassador of Iraq in Brussels, Ahmed Berwari, met, at the embassy headquarters, with the Assistant Secretary-General of NATO for Operations Affairs Thomas Goffus, to exchange views on files related to The common interest between Iraq and NATO.
At the outset of the meeting, Kovos congratulated Ambassador Berwari on his nomination as head of the Iraq mission to NATO in Brussels, noting his "aspiration for continued cooperation between the two sides to achieve the common interests between Iraq and NATO."
The statement added, "The role of NATO in supporting the Iraqi forces and capacity-building programs that are provided through the NATO Training Mission in Iraq (NMI) and the international support provided by the alliance and international partners, which contributed to supporting Iraqi security institutions, was reviewed."
The two sides stressed the "importance of continuing consultation with the concerned Iraqi security authorities to crystallize common visions in the programs presented to Iraq and within the priorities set by the Iraqi government, which contributes to supporting the various security institutions."
For his part, Kovos expressed, "the alliance's keenness to continue providing support to Iraq and cooperation in various fields approved by the Iraqi government and among its priorities," stressing that "the work of the alliance is carried out in full respect of Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
