Erbil (Kurdistan 24)- Iraqi Foreign Minister Fouad Hussein said that the United States will continue to support the Peshmerga forces for another four years, stressing at the same time the need for an agreement between the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, so that they can play a greater role in the political process in Iraq. Iraq.
Hussein told Kurdistan 24, while in New York City, on the sidelines of the General Assembly meetings, that the Kurdistan Region can play an important role in forming the Iraqi government.
Fuad Hussein pointed to the necessity of an agreement between the Kurdistan Democratic Party, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, and the rest of the political parties in Kurdistan, to have a greater role in the political process in Iraq.
On Iraq's participation in the annual UN meeting, the Iraqi Foreign Minister said: "Iraq is no different from the world and has economic, political and strategic interests, and all the countries we met with their representatives confirm that the Iraqi parties should not reach an agreement on forming the next government."
He explained that the neighboring countries, Europe and the United States confirmed that they would not interfere in the formation of the government, because if the Kurdistan Region and Baghdad cooperate, they can form a government that runs the country's affairs.
On US cooperation with the Peshmerga, Hussein said, "America has been providing support to the Peshmerga forces for many years, and America needs Iraq's approval, and as I understand, the Iraqi Prime Minister has expressed his approval for this support, which will continue over the next four years."
