The coordination framework is conducting negotiations with the Kurdish and Sunni political blocs in order to hold a parliamentary session this week, whose purpose may not be to elect the President of the Republic, but rather to announce the resumption of the work of the Parliament to exercise its legislative and oversight functions.
A member of the Wisdom Movement, Abbas Ghadeer, stated that "the forces affiliated with the coordination framework are continuing to conduct negotiations with other blocs to return to parliament sessions this week."
Ghadeer added, "Most of the political blocs with the return of parliament sessions, and this was evident in the results of the meeting that brought together the Kurdistan Democratic Party and the Sovereignty Bloc in Erbil recently."
He pointed out that "the parliament represents everyone, and solving problems should take place under its dome, and disrupting it means harming the political process."
Ghadeer pointed out that «the coordination framework is trying to intensify negotiations and contacts, in order to convince the Sadrists of their presence in the next government».
For his part, a member of the State of Law coalition, Rasoul Radi, confirmed that "the coordinating framework is still committed to the nomination of Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani for the position of prime minister, and no discussion has been made to replace him until the present time."
Radi added, "All the blocs in Parliament, especially Sunnis and Kurds, did not object to Al-Sudani, and he enjoys support at the international and regional levels as well."
And he spoke of "there is a real desire to restore life to Parliament again, by resuming sessions, whether to complete the constitutional entitlements related to the election of the President of the Republic and the formation of the government or the exercise of legislative and oversight functions."
Radi noted, "The purpose of the session may not be to complete these entitlements, but rather to announce the return of Parliament's tasks at the level of legislation and oversight."
And he indicated, "Iraq is a parliamentary system, meaning that the work of public authorities is based on the parliament, and it is not correct to disrupt the tasks of this important constitutional institution."
And Radi concluded that «the request signed by deputies from different blocs reached 190 deputies is still with the Presidency of Parliament, with the hope that it will decide during the current week the date of the new session».
Parliamentary sources confirm to Al-Mada that "Parliament has not yet set a date for the next session, and there is difficulty in holding it during the current week in light of the complex political situation."
In addition, a member of the Al-Fateh Alliance, Aid Al-Hilali, said that "everyone realized today the magnitude of the political danger that is attacking Iraq and the blockage that has lasted for more than 10 months."
Al-Hilali added, "The current dialogues have become more mature than before, and everyone has decided the need to return to the legislative authority and resume the work of the House of Representatives."
He pointed out that "many indications that we have obtained indicate that there is an acceptance of the coordination framework candidate, Muhammad Shia Al-Sudani, for the position of Prime Minister."
Al-Hilali stressed, "The general situation imposes on the political blocs the presence of the Sadrist bloc in the public scene and an understanding with it, even if it does not participate with the government, but at least to have a say in it."
He noted, "The meeting that took place last week with Al-Sudani at the parliament headquarters came at the request of the independents in order to listen to his government curriculum."
Hilali stressed, "The coordinating framework is expected to reach the two Kurdish parties, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdistan Democratic Party, on one candidate for the post of President of the Republic in order to proceed with the procedures for forming the government."
Al-Hilali went on to say, "The two Kurdish parties have not reached an official announcement until the present time, but the news that we receive from the Kurdistan region confirms the progress of talks and positive consensus, which we are waiting to announce in the coming days."
