Baghdad / Obelisk: Representative Hussein Arab said in a tweet on Twitter, that what is happening in the Baghdad Municipality Projects Department of corruption and bribery cannot be tolerated at all, and we will take all legal measures against violators.
Corruption operations in the Municipality of Baghdad led to the waste of billions of funds allocated for the reconstruction of the capital, as well as the destruction of basic infrastructure and strategic projects, as well as the disruption of other projects.
However, weak laws, lack of oversight, and failure to hold accused politicians accountable led to the exacerbation of corruption.
Politician Muhammad Al-Tamimi wrote on Twitter: Corruption has become untenable in the Baghdad Municipality, from agents, from the Secretary-General and from employees.
The head of the Iraqi-Canadian Chamber of Commerce, Yasser Al-Mimar, believes that rampant corruption has reached the distortion of the landmarks of Baghdad in all its regions, and trading deals, selling projects and neglecting areas and services has made Baghdad one of the worst cities in the world to live.
And the engineer, Sami Muhammad, considered that the Baghdad Municipality, the projects department, is a corruption mafia, indicating that what is happening is a conspiracy to destroy Baghdad and its history.
Although the Investigations Department of the Integrity Commission announced earlier that orders had been issued to summon three officials in the Baghdad Municipality, the Commission did not reveal even a single person over the years.
What confirms the corrupt in the Municipality of Baghdad is the lack of response to the proposals of the Integrity Commission to improve the reality of roads and bridges.
According to the Integrity Report on the construction, construction, implementation and rehabilitation of roads and bridges, the Municipality of Baghdad refused to respond to most of the Commission's proposals and recommendations contained in its report issued in July of last year to address the problems and obstacles that stand in the way of advancing the reality of the transport sector, and improving services provided to the public.
The rampant corruption in Iraq continues to penetrate into government departments, especially the Baghdad Municipality, where corruption and bribery operations and the assignment of projects to fake companies in addition to the waste of public money.
Iraqi cities suffer from corrupt projects referred to fictitious companies, as well as the abuse of bribery, which has caused implementation outside technical specifications.
