    Prime Minister-designate Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani received, on Sunday evening, the US ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, his office announced on Monday morning.
    Al-Sudani's office said in a statement, "The meeting witnessed discussions on bilateral relations and common interests between the two countries and ways to develop them, and the importance of working to enhance security and stability in Iraq and the region during the next stage."
    The meeting also witnessed, according to the statement, Al-Sudani’s affirmation of “Iraq’s desire to consolidate a strategic partnership relationship with the United States by strengthening work on the Strategic Framework Agreement in its various economic, educational, cultural and political aspects and issues of facing the effects of climate change, as well as security cooperation in the field of providing support and advice to empower the Iraqi security forces.
    The Prime Minister-designate expressed "the keenness of the next government to continue the dialogue at the national level inside and outside Parliament, and to strive to resolve internal contentious issues."
    Al-Sudani stressed "the importance of building distinguished and balanced international relations, in the interest of the Iraqi people, and extending bridges of cooperation with brotherly and friendly peoples in the regional and international environments."
    For her part, the US ambassador affirmed the US government's support for a secure, stable, prosperous and united federal and sovereign Iraq, and expressed her country's government's readiness to assist Iraq in combating corruption, and praised Al-Sudani's focus in achieving progress in this file, according to the statement.
