    Economy News-Baghdad
Energy expert Ahmed Sabah revealed, on Thursday, the size of Iraq's gas reserves, while stressing the inability of the Kurdistan region to develop this industry and obtain a position in the global energy markets.
Sabah told the "Information" agency that "Iraq's gas reserves amount to 132 trillion cubic meters," noting that "the region's reserves represent approximately 20% of Iraq's reserves."
He added, "The region will be able, in the best case, to produce 1,200 bottles per day, some of which can be exported to Turkey during the months of the mild climate, and therefore the lack of demand for electricity, but this quantity is negligible in the global energy market, not to mention the events of a strategic impact."
He pointed out that "the region currently produces about 770 bottles per day, mostly from the Khormor and Chemchemal fields, while the Miran and Binabawi fields are looking to develop."
He considered that "the Kurdistan region is unable to export gas. This is a technical fact. Other than that, it is just political talk with the aim of gaining the support of the West against the central authority, or in order to support any of the two Kurdish parties quarreling against the other."
He pointed out that "the gas reserves in Kurdistan are modest, and their politicians are taking advantage of the international climate and the energy crisis to gain support in a completely non-technical discussion."
