Shafaq News/ The head of the Iranian judiciary, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, called on his Iraqi counterpart to expedite the trial of those involved in the assassination of the deputy head of the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Authority, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis, and the commander of the Quds Force of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Lieutenant-General Qassem Soleimani.
Ejei said in a letter to the President of the Supreme Judicial Council, Faeq Zeidan, that the assassination of Lieutenant-General Qassem Soleimani, Abu Mahdi Al-Muhandis and eight of their comrades at the hands of the Americans and their agents in Iraq contradicts international peace and security.
"This terrorist incident led to a violation of the sovereignty of the two countries, the principles of international law, and the violation of international obligations in the field of protecting internationally supported official figures," he added.
He pointed out that "this terrorist act was carried out under direct orders from former US President Donald Trump and with the participation of some officials from other countries, but their positions do not prevent them from assuming responsibility for this crime and the need to punish them, and that the measures taken by the Iraqi judicial system indicate the country's intention to arrest, prosecute and punish these people." criminals."
He called for expediting the investigation, prosecuting and punishing the perpetrators and the elements involved in this crime, given that more than two years have passed since this "terrorist" incident.
He declared the readiness of the judiciary in the Islamic Republic of Iran to continue cooperating with the judiciary in the Republic of Iraq regarding the follow-up of this case.
In his letter, Ejei expressed his satisfaction with holding three rounds of negotiations for the joint investigation committee between the judicial authorities in the two countries.
He considered that the results of this joint cooperation embody the will of Iran and Iraq to fight terrorism, establish justice, maintain peace and security, expand friendly relations and enhance bilateral judicial cooperation.
