Today, Friday, the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee confirmed that the draft law on military service (compulsory conscription) will be applied two years after its enactment if it is passed in the House of Representatives in its current form, while the service periods for those assigned are separated according to the testimonies.
Next Sunday, the House of Representatives is scheduled to hold the first reading of the science service bill.
Deputy Chairman of the Committee, Sakfan Sindi, said, "Proceeding to legislate the draft law on the service of science by starting to read it came after holding multiple and lengthy meetings of the Parliamentary Security and Defense Committee, and we saw that it is in the interest of the Iraqi people."

He stressed that "the legislation of this law is necessary because there are risks related to terrorism in the country, and if it is enacted in its current form, it will include those between the ages of 18 and 35 years, and the service age is determined by the educational attainment of each eligible person, as those who have an intermediate certificate will serve 18 months, middle school 12 months, university and institutes." or its equivalent, 9 months, masters or its equivalent, 6 months, and doctorate 3 months.
He pointed out, "The salary will be between 600-700 thousand, and the current volunteers in the army will continue to serve until they reach retirement age, and those who are in it according to the military service law will complete the above periods and be released."
