The Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, decided to resume sending the sum of 200 billion dinars to the Kurdistan Region, while a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Nermin Maarouf, pointed out that there is great hope for “reaching a comprehensive and long-term agreement between Erbil and Baghdad.”
According to the information, the Minister of Finance in the Kurdistan Regional Government, Awat Sheikh Janab, informed the directors in the ministry that the Iraqi Prime Minister, Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, decided to resume sending the amount of 200 billion dinars to the Kurdistan Region, starting from the beginning of next year.
On the other hand, the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Kurdistan Region issued a statement, in which it confirmed that there was no new communication between it and the new Iraqi government, denying the news of sending the amount.
For her part, a member of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Nermin Maarouf, told Rudaw Media Network, that Muhammad Shia'a's work program included reaching an agreement between Erbil and Baghdad on the budget and other issues, referring in particular to paragraphs 20 and 23 of the ministerial curriculum.
Paragraph 20 of the ministerial curriculum states that the Iraqi government aims to “put forward a vision and project to solve the problems between the federal government and the Kurdistan Regional Government in accordance with the provisions of the constitution, especially with regard to the oil and gas law and the need for its legislation.” Paragraph 23 refers to the preparation of draft laws, including a draft law Oil and Gas, and the Union Bill.
Regarding the resumption of sending the amount of 200 billion dinars to the Kurdistan Region, Nermin Maarouf said that Baghdad and Erbil can agree on it, adding that the amount may be sent before the end of the year, according to what they learned from some sources.
And she pointed out that there is “great hope for reaching a comprehensive agreement, especially since the government of Muhammad Shia’ al-Sudani has full authority to reach an agreement,” noting that the importance lies in “the commitment of Erbil and Baghdad to the agreement after reaching it.”
