The Kurdish blocs are calling on the Iraqi parliament to adopt a legislative stance that prevents violations and calls for hosting the government
Shafaq News/ The Kurdish blocs in the Iraqi Parliament demanded, on Monday, the Presidency of Parliament and members of the Parliament, an appropriate legislative position that prevents Iranian and Turkish violations, calling at the same time to host the Iraqi government in a session tomorrow to take a serious and practical stance that preserves the country's sovereignty.
A statement by the Kurdish blocs, received by Shafaq News agency, stated, "We all know what the Kurdistan Region has been subjected to in the past days, until dawn today, from the bombing of surface-to-air missiles and drone warplanes, and this is not the first time, which is considered a repeated and flagrant violation of the sovereignty of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region by neighboring countries." ".
She added, "Condemnation and the formation of investigative committees are no longer sufficient and do not deter the recurrence of these violations. We call on you, as an Iraqi parliament, to take an appropriate legislative position to prevent and condemn these violations, and we call on the Islamic Republic of Iran and the State of Turkey to stop its violation of international norms and good-neighborly relations, support stability in the region and enhance its security."
And the statement continued, "We also demand that the executive authority host and be present in tomorrow's session, Tuesday, to take a serious and practical stance that preserves the country's sovereignty by taking what it deems appropriate to stop these attacks, whoever they are and from any country that violates Iraqi sovereignty."
The Kurdish blocs urged the international community to "provide Iraq with air defense systems to deter these attacks," calling on the United Nations to "take a clear and frank stance towards these repeated Iranian and Turkish attacks in order to preserve the sovereignty of our country and to preserve the lives of our citizens, and for the Iraqi government to assume its full constitutional responsibility."
Earlier today, Monday, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan hinted at a ground military operation in northern Syria and Iraq.
Erdogan said, in statements followed by Shafaq News Agency, "The military air operation that we carried out in northern Syria and Iraq will not be limited to air strikes."
He added, "We will hold discussions about the participation of ground forces in the military operation in northern Syria and Iraq."
And at dawn yesterday, Sunday, the Turkish Ministry of Defense announced that its fighters had carried out air strikes on the strongholds of the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) and the local wings loyal to it in northern Syria and Iraq.
The ministry stated, "The operation aims to ensure border security, prevent any terrorist attacks targeting the Turkish people and security forces, and eradicate terrorism from its roots, by neutralizing terrorist organizations (BKK/KGK/YPG) and others."
